Son of Ian – Good Morning September
For starters, I haven’t heard a CD that I have listened to multiple times over and over and over again or not even been able to get through the whole album because I keep playing the first few songs multiple times since way back when I listened to Pearl Jam Ten in August of 1991 for the first time. For all the PJ haters, they are my absolute favorite band and always will be. However, I have a new close second, Son of Ian which is headed by Trenton McKean who is THE real deal! I absolutely love the sound, vibe, and entire album. I have not heard such a marriage of the saxophone with a band that sounded so harmoniously perfect since Clarence Clemens AKA The Big Man and Springsteen were united. I also have to admit that I subscribed in the 80’s to Backstreet magazine, the Bruce Springsteen fanzine, which explains two things: how much of a music nerd I was and the love of the soulful piercing backdrop of a saxophone into any song. That is why I have fallen for my new love of the infusion of Dave “Bishop” Oster with Trenton McKean (which is Scottish for Ian). Since Clarence Clemons’ passing, no one has been able to hold a torch until now.
The opportunity to talk with Trenton personally arose and I have to say; he is as cool in person as his band persona. I’m a true fan. He laughed when I informed him of two things: 1. Trenton is white 2. Trenton has orgasm eyes when he sings. Actually, both of us laughed at those things! He assured me that I wasn’t the first to point out the obvious. However, he is so passionate about his music and getting his message across that he truly gets into every song emotionally and belts out his guttural sound with all he has which sometimes it leads to him digging deep inside to get it all out which in turn rolls the eyes back and sets him into a world of his own. Well Trenton, you are not alone….you set us all off into that world with your efforts! Funny thing with Trenton is that the very first time I put the CD in to the player I joked “hey~it’s John Mayer with talent” but later took it back because it was so unfair to even make that comparison! Son of Ian is destined to be the next best thing! I don’t want to sound like “yer bum’s oot the windae!” rather, “lang may yer lum reek”. In essence, I’m not blowing smoke and live long and keep well. The creativity of this band will take it to the top where they belong. Trenton also reassured me of my own passion…if it feels good…it is good. Thanks man…it feels good…I should be the one with the orgasm eyes because it feels that good!

If you haven't had a chance to check out what AMR is doing. Go to the above website. John is going to put Salt Lake City, UT on the map and make a name for Utah and its music scene. The cool thing about AMR is that by tuning in you can hear local music coming out of that individual state. Also, if you are a musician you can send your music in to AMR and have it played. John doesn't discriminate to the bands or musicians. He will play whatever you send in. Radio stations need to be more like this! But, unfortunately, they only play top 40's and bombard you with commercials. John brings a whole new flavor to the roll of radio. So Please show your support for local music!

Rehearsal "Live & Acoustic"
Lately, we've been trying to break down our set in an acoustic style. I do most of my work as a solo artist but performing with the band is not only a great change of pace but its a great way to collaborate on new songs and in addition to working on our dynamics as a band. When you are performing it can become easy to hide behind the music. But you can't when everything is broken down in its simplest form. It simplifies the music and you can tweak what mistakes are made as you work through the project etc.

The funny thing about this video is that the song had already been recorded as a solo acoustic piece. You get to see us working through the kinks as we perform the song as a band. Extremely proud of my mates.

Photoshoot with Stars
The Son of Ian photo shoot with Stars was awesome. Shooting in SLC in the dark is always a good time. Especially when your taking shots in area's your not supposed to be in. ;) Shhhhh! Anyway, I can't wait to post the new photos. Unfortunately, I have to wait till next Wednesday to go through them with the new photographer. But all and all they look great. In addition we are working on a new video for "Down Below" I'm hoping to start the new project within the next month or so depending on financing etc. The new director / camera man is Kelly Eaton who is a film major who works with a lot of the new movies that come through SLC. I'm excited to work with this talented up and coming film director. Son of Ian has a lot of new stuff coming up but again... you'll have to wait till i can give the go ahead. ;) Anyway, cheers to all those that read this and thank you for showing us your love and support.

My name is Trenton McKean and I sing for a 5 piece band
called "Son of Ian". This is a new project I started a few years ago
with my band mates. Introducing the band we have Dave the "Bishop"
Oster on vox and saxophone, Patrick Neville on lead guitar, Evan Powell on
drums and percussion, and Mr. Carl Ross on bass. Each of us come from such a
diverse background that we make a great range of sounds as well as a great
team. I couldn't ask for better band mates. Together we have played for a
variety of different events. From colleges, presidential candidates, to the nation’s governors,
political events, Salt Lake City councils, TV and radio commercials, REal soccer
team, radio stations, Utah’s Channel 2, park city TV, and many others. I

This
last week we performed for a company called “Mastercontrol's" private event. Master Control is
a huge nation- wide company that designs software solutions for companies doing
business in regulatory environments to move products to market faster, while
reducing overall costs and increasing internal efficiency. One of their contracts
is the FDA, which over sees the nation’s regulatory control on businesses. It was great to be able to perform for such a influential company. I look forward to working with them again in the future. If you want more information on them go to http://www.mastercontrol.com
